چکیده

Priming Cooperation in Social Dilemma Games Research on public goods mainly focuses its attention on the ability of incentives, beliefs and group structure to affect behaviour in social dilemma interactions. This paper investigates the pure effects of a rather subtle mechanism on social preferences in a one-shot linear public good game. Using priming techniques from social psychology, we activate the concept of cooperation and explore the extent to which this intervention brings about changes in people’s voluntary contributions to the public good and self-reported emotional responses. Our findings suggest that priming cooperation increases contribution levels, controlling for subjects’ gender. Our priming effect is much stronger for females than for males. This difference can be explained by a shift in subjects’ beliefs about contributions. We also find a significant impact of priming on mean positive emotional responses. Which hat to wear? Impact of natural identities on coordination and cooperation

As the workforce becomes increasingly diverse, motivating individuals from different backgrounds to work together effectively is a major challenge facing organizations. In an experiment conducted at a large public university in the United States, we manipulate the salience of participants’ multidimensional natural identities and investigate the effects of identity on coordination and cooperatio...

On the suitability of the 2 x 2 games for studying reciprocal cooperation and kin selection

The 2 x 2 games, in particular the Prisoner’s Dilemma, have been extensively used in studies into reciprocal cooperation and, to a lesser extent, kin selection. This paper examines the suitability of the 2 x 2 games for modelling the evolution of cooperation through reciprocation and kin selection. This examination is not restricted to the Prisoner’s Dilemma, but includes the other non-trivial ...

Nodes Having a Major Influence to Break Cooperation Define a Novel Centrality Measure: Game Centrality

Cooperation played a significant role in the self-organization and evolution of living organisms. Both network topology and the initial position of cooperators heavily affect the cooperation of social dilemma games. We developed a novel simulation program package, called 'NetworGame', which is able to simulate any type of social dilemma games on any model, or real world networks with any assign...

Running head: Incentives, Social Preferences, and Cooperation 1 In Press: Decision Not all Prisoner’s Dilemma Games are Equal: Incentives, Social Preferences, and Cooperation

The Prisoner's Dilemma (PD) is a classic decision problem where two players simultaneously must decide whether to cooperate or to act in their own narrow self-interest. The PD game has been used to model many naturally occurring interactive situations, at the personal, organizational and social levels, in which there exists a tension between individual material gain and the common good. At leas...
